Destination Details for Doty

WA Coast

Currently, Eric Willhite's route is a no go. It was hard to even see the Y to go left and uphill, but we found it. It is now quite overgrown and where the washout was is impassable. If you take a right at the Y, someone has made a bit of a trail, but we realized after a quarter mile that we missed the Y Eric described and went back. Dave wasn't feeling well so we didn't retry that approach. It was a bit of a bushwhack, and the only option we could see was to bushwhack through the logged out area to get up to the site. Perhaps had we pressed on through the bushes, we might have come out to a logging road. Leslie Romer gives some different directions, but those road numbers were nowhere to be found as in no signs and did not show up on Gaia. We weren't sure which new road she was talking about. Since we found a nice spot with three volcanoes to view, we decided to come back and camp there; then take all day to figure out the route up. We will pore over caltopo and see if we can line up any of the roads Leslie mentions to see if we can figure out her alternative route and report back here later. We were quite close to the GPS coordinates when we turned back.
