It depends where you start. We usually do it in winter and start at the lodge so you go down; then back up. There are sometimes a couple of places where you don't want to make a mistake on snowshoes. I prefer up and over to the contour as it wouldn't take much to have that go wrong. Great views from the top - can be really windy and cold. I've not done it in summer in many, many years. There are other trails coming into the area in the summer. People don't use those usually in the winter. It is a popular place in winter and probably in summer. As of 2023, number of cars going up to the Ridge has been limited due to the lodge fire. I went in the summer of 2024 and was surprised to find a paved path all the way there! I usually go in the winter so I have no idea when that happened. It is also busier in summer even though it is quite popular in the winter.
