You can do this as a loop trail = 13 miles and a lot of up and down on the ridge. I did it that way once. You can also do as an out and back - it is steep but trail is easy to follow when there is no snow. We turned back once on snowshoes as the snow had settled in a way as to make it challenging. Nice views from the ridge - not so many from the actual lookout site.
