Destination Details for Copper Mtn.(Ridge)Lookout

Northwest WA

While this could be done as a very long day hike, there are a lot of campgrounds along the way. Those in the National Park require a permit. There is a lot of demand for these. Camp outside the park on National Forest land if a permit cannot be obtained. I have visited the lookout twice. It is a gorgeous area but has been discovered and loved so much that there can be a mile of cars. Also, watch out - no rangers at campsites, and we had someone come in during the day and take a spot that was supposed to be the separate kitchen for our spot. We told them, and it was close to the boundary so they could have camped anywhere on the forest side. They wouldn't leave but did leave early morning. Too many people out this way who either are unaware of the rules or simply choose to ignore them/pretend to be ignorant.
