Sometimes the lower gate is closed adding at least a mile each direction and 500 gain or so. If you can drive to trailhead, it is less than three miles. It can be pretty sporty as a snowshoe, but if there is no snow, it is fairly easy with a huge view payoff at the lookout. I've been there many times.
