Destination Details for Lorraine Ridge

Central WA

Start on Icicle Creek Trail. At 1.5 miles bridge has collapsed. You can currently (9-23) cross on planks, but it wouldn't be passable when water higher/faster. We waded it as planks unsteady and difficult with overnight backpack. Trail in good condition until 5 miles where next bridge also collapsed. Took us awhile to find a safe way to cross, but basically go through campground on faint trail which leads to a horse ford. On the other side is a beautiful campsite. Pass turnoff to Wildhorse Trail and Mormon Lakes in another half mile or less. After that, face long sections of brush bashing and blowdown interspersed with longer sections of mostly good trail. At 7.5 miles turn off at Leland Creek trail - lovely campsite here before your third (much easier) ford. We camped there. Ford creek; turn right soon on Lorraine Ridge trail. It has a lot of blowdown and overgrowth early on but gets a bit better. Once you get up switchbacks and do a long easy left, lookout site is pretty much just above you on top of the rocks you see. We wandered around a lot looking at views and seeing if we could see down to Lorraine Lake, but the trail peters out at end of ridge so we didn't bother going further. There is a foundation up there and some anchor wires. Wonderful views and lots of fall color right now. It was Labor Day weekend and saw no one after mile 2-2.5. Total solitude for 24 hours.
