Destination Details for Mount Adams

South Central WA

We made an attempt summer 2023. Problem was we had to go when Dave could arrange time off. It then happened it was a not so great weather window. We tried anyway. Started at 1:30 p.m. Dave has back issues and was tired by 8400 feet so we camped there and during the night was a thunderstorm and wind. It seemed ok in the morning so we set out. There was no running water beyond Morrison Creek far below so we melted as much as possible to take with us. We were doing ok, but about 1000 feet above Lunch Counter, I was having A Fib issues that wouldn't settle down. I was worried about weather window and getting back down. We sat for an hour, and the weather was coming in, and my heart was not converting so we ended up glissading down and giving up. We heard from some others that they gave up in the white out/thunder. We will try again sometime when I feel more confident of my steep snow skills coming down as well as stay overnight near trailhead to give D lots of time to get to Lunch Counter. We also hope to find a better weather window next time. It is our only one left to complete the SLOW list so it was ever so disappointing.
