Destination Details for Mount Aix

South Central WA

The road to this one sucked horribly in a low slung Subaru. It is really rocky for miles. We camped at a water source on a corner with a flat spot maybe 2 miles from the top. Just beyond that was a nice saddle but snow had melted and no water so glad we chose what we did. We continued onto lookout site and probably should have taken the actual trail around the back and up instead of the scramble trail we saw others taking. That likely would have been a bit easier. Views are phenomenal. There's a nice flat spot where the lookout was. The final ascent to the very rugged mt Aix can be done as a scramble on the western aspect. You will find a boot path. Or follow the trail around to the eastern aspect. We thought both routes to be exposed and elected to do the western aspect. Other people we know did the eastern and thought it fine. Take your choice!
