Destination Details for North Ridge Lookout

South Central WA

The road to this is in good shape, but be aware that it follows the edge for a couple miles - steep drop offs. 4510 ends at a gate. Walk the road about .7 miles to catch the trail system which is shared with dirt bikes. To the intersection with Lookout Mountain trail is about 4.2 miles; then it is another 2.3 to the lookout site. Views are great! There is also a lot of time in woods which is nice on a hot day. No water really, but there was a small source near the other real campsites we saw which were maybe a 1/4 to 1/2 mile beyond the turnoff to North Ridge Trail. This was late August on a very dry year and still enough water. I found three of the four footings - one is hard to see under a tree so I suspect the other is under a bigger tree. We saw only 7 dirt bikes the whole 24 hours. Really quiet and beautiful on the ridge at night. We brought in five liters of water 3.6 miles. If we had known about the water source, we would have filled up there and camped up near the lookout.
