IF the gate is open and you can drive to trailhead, this hike is 14 miles and 3950 gain. I have never seen the gate open. Last time when we did this as an overnight, there was a mess not far after the trailhead as the loggers had obliterated the trail in that section. The rhodendrons were blooming which was gorgeous. There is NO water unless there is some snow so we timed it to try to use snow for water. We stashed some water on trail about halfway for the way out. We were lucky to find lots of snow at summit and spent time making sure we melted enough for dinner and the next day. It was lovely at the site, and we watched hawks playing the whole time we were up there. We saw two other people on the trail, but we had the summit to ourselves. There is one campsite just below summit and one maybe 3/4 mile down on an arm and one half way. That's it.
