Huckleberry - it has long been on the radar as a backpacking trip. I wanted to go check out the camp as a day hike just to see what it was like since I was in the area bagging sites. First off, trail is not signed on road anywhere. All there was is what looks to be a pullout; then you see the small sign. Use Gaia to find it. I missed it twice until I pulled out the Gaia and kept it open. The trail - some work has been done lower down, but it is still onvergrown - not tough to follow down in that section. It has little streams covering the trail in a couple areas - hard not to get a little wet. At around 2100, the blowdown became extreme. I crawled under a couple as that was the only way getting very sooty; then I was confronted by a field of blowdown and persisted for a bit before saying as a solo, it just wasn't a good idea. Glad I wasn't trying to backpack it. You'd need Gaia and to find a way around all of that. I gave up on getting to the camp as I had only gained about 1200 to that point. I went back to decent view of Glacier Peak and had a snack before going down. Down wasn't much easier as you have to pick your way pretty carefully. Note: Firetower.org/Ray Kresck GPS Coordinates show the lookout was at boulder benchmark, which is the next peak to the north. Flip a coin, but I am goingg with where the trail ends at Huckleberry mountain.
