This is a bootpath and in years past it was not marked or easy to see. Also, be aware the lower gate can be closed adding a lot of mileage to the trailhead. In years past, it was a little difficult to see the trail in the middle section. It goes straight up at first with lots of roots and veggie belays for the way down. It then contours through some nice meadows with lots of boulder hopping until you reach the tarn; then it's mainly trail. There is a water source near the top and a nice flat area with amazing views.
