Destination Details for Pyramid Mtn. Lookout

Central WA

We saw only four bicyclists and one jogger, but it was frigid - 34 degrees at the trailhead at 6200 feet at midday. The larch there are in their prime currently. There was intermittent snow which turned solid and deeper toward the top of the mountain. There was good water at 3.75 but nothing in terms of established camps. 5.1 gorgeous camp but absolutely NO water currently. 5.6 nice camp but only small water hole that looked quite briney - did not want to use it so we pressed on believing the one trip report which said there was water at 7 miles in. They had also said there was a camp at 6 miles which would have been the intersection - nope. The turnoff is clear at that point - 6.2 miles in or so but is not marked as such. That 7 miles turned out to be Pyramid Meadows and thankfully there was plenty of water and a lovely hidden camp - with snow, ice, and wet, but we managed the night there. Got up fairly early and went to the summit. This is a gorgeous trail, but it does a lot of up and down and about 2 miles go from 6900 to 6200 and back again - in the dark forest. On the way out after summiting in the morning, that rather sucked. Summit has part of a firefinder and part of the foundation and incredible views of peaks all around including Rainier and Glacier as well as views down to Lake Chelan. We watched the Lady Express from up there. I heard there was a potty on the north side, but we noted only cliff on north side so no idea about it. It must really hang out there. We had to break trail the last half mile, and the wind was so chill. When the wind stopped, it was warm enough in the sun.
